Biography

I am a visual artist currently based in The Hague, The Netherlands. I was born In Dubai to British expats and then Immigrated to New Zealand at the age of 7. I took art classes after school there and went on to really find a passion for painting during high school at the age of 15.

I studied Fine Arts for two years in Auckland at ELAM School of Fine Arts. Then in 2021 obtained a BA in Fine Arts from The Royal Academy of Arts, The Hague. Since then, I have been working as an artist.

Work

My artistic practice serves as a response to the complexities of the human experience, acting as a method of reflection and documentation. Through my work, I delve into nostalgic narratives, anxieties, and the intricate emotions that define our lives. Painting, for me, is not merely a visual medium but a profound tool for comprehending the human condition.

Through the interplay of colour, texture, and symbolic imagery, I invite viewers to delve deeper into the complex layers of each piece and how these two emotions interact. My artistic process is deeply personal yet universally resonant. By incorporating symbolism, narrative, and references to the human experience, I aim to create works that speak to individual journeys while tapping into shared emotions and memories. Through painting, I strive to capture the essence of the human condition in all its complexity, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences and emotions, and finding space to feel connection and to be seen.

My art delves into the intersection of nostalgia and discomfort, crafting environments where viewers encounter a blend of familiarity, melancholy and anxiety. Primarily focused on figurative painting, my creative journey draws inspiration from a childhood steeped in storytelling. Raised by librarians and regaled with tales from my father's travels, my work reflects the influence of picture books and illustrative storytelling.

Informed by both stylised illustration and traditional oil techniques, my paintings evoke the intimate familiarity of illustrated books while being depicted with the influences of a traditionally trained painter. This juxtaposition of styles creates an inviting space for viewers to engage with narratives that resonate on a deeply personal level within the context of a fine art setting.
